The dockyard of the Norderwerft is located on the southbank of the river Elbe, just across the new Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall. If you take the ferry 73 you pass one of the floating docks close by and with luck you can watch some of the workmen in action. (Take the ferry 73 from Landungsbrücken. That’s the one, that brings you to the musicals. Just stay on board, go on. You can stay on the ferry the whole time, it will bring you back to Landungsbrücken, which takes about an hour.)
At that special occasion I was lucky to catch a glimpse of the process as they changed one of the propellers of the tug boats.
